BLACKPINK Earn Second No. 1 on World Digital Songs, Debut on Social 50

Blackpink is back and earning themselves another No. 1 while landing on several other Billboard charts with their new singles and EP.

After BLACKPINK ‘s huge start earlier this year that saw the new K-pop act make an explosive debut on the charts, the girl group is back and earning themselves another No. 1 while landing on several other Billboard charts with their new singles and EP.

BLACKPINK earn their second No. 1 on the World Digital Songs with 4,000 tracks sold of new single “Playing With Fire.” The melancholy-drenched dance track outperforms slightly outperform the group’s other single, the acoustic-leaning country-inspired “Stay,” that sold nearly 3,000 copies and starts on the chart at No. 4.

The chart performance is similar to when BLACKPINK debuted with a different pair of singles in August. The more up-tempo “Boombayah” initially outperformed the slightly more melancholy “Whistle,” debuting at No. 1 and 2, respectively. But this week, “Whistle” surges ahead as it jumps to No. 8, up from No. 15 last week, while “Boombayah” falls to No. 16 from No. 14.

BLACKPINK now leads among female K-pop acts with the most No. 1s on World Digital Songs. Notably, their only female competitors to date are label mates 2NE1 (whose “I Am the Best” hit No. 1 in 2014 and again in 2015) and CL (who got a chart-topper thanks to featuring on PSY’s “Daddy” last year). PSY still leads among all K-pop acts with four total.

Blackpink also make their debut on a few new Billboard charts too. By moving 1,000 copies of their debut EP titled Square Two — which includes all the aforementioned singles along with an acoustic version of “Whistle” — the ladies debut at No. 3 on World Albums, and No. 13 on Heatseekers Albums a chart that sees much less K-pop acts.

The quartet also make their debut on Billboard’s Social 50 chart by entering at No. 19. Girl groups are no strangers to the Social 50 with the foursome in the same company of Little Mix (No. 28 this week) and Fifth Harmony (No. 29) in terms of the most active artists on the world’s leading social networking sites.
