BLACKPINK’s “WHISTLE” Back at No.1, and “BOOMBAYAH” M/V Surpasses 10 Million Views
The music video of “BOOMBAYAH”, one of the title songs of YG Entertainment’s new girl group BLACKPINK, reached the 10 million mark on Youtube.
As of 10 AM on August 13, the official music video of “BOOMBAYAH”, one of the title tracks of BLACKPINK’s debut album “SQUARE ONE”, posted 10,681,859 views on Youtube. It is even more surprising considering that the song was released only five days ago.
“WHISTLE”, the other title track of BLACKPINK’s debut album, surpassed 9,305,506 views, and when combined, the two music videos are expected to reach the 20 million mark soon. This shows the immense popularity of BLACKPINK.
The songs are doing well on the charts too. As of 10 AM on August 13, “WHISTLE” is no.1 on the charts of seven music streaming websites: Bugsmusic, Navermusic, Ollehmusic, Mnet, Genie, Monkey3, and Soribada. Despite the flurry of new songs, “WHISTLE” took back the no.1 spot again in just two days.
“WHISTLE” is a sexy and hypnotizing hip-hop song with a simple beat. Its unique melody that is themed around the sound of a whistle and tinkling water bubble sounds make the song pleasant to the ear. “BOOMBAYAH” is a fast-tempo song with powerful drum beats and unique synth sounds. Once you hear the hook part of the song, in which members shout out “oppa”, soon you will find yourself humming the song over and over again.
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK is to appear on SBS’s Inkigayo on August 14 and perform “WHISTLE” and ”BOOMBAYAH” for the first time.
