BLACKPINK’s “BOOMBAYAH” Hits 50 Million YouTube Views in Just Two Months
The music video of “BOOMBAYAH”, one of the debut songs of YG’s new girl group BLACKPINK, surpassed the 50 million mark on Youtube.
“BOOMBAYAH” is a track of BLACKPINK’s debut album “SQUARE ONE” released on August 8. The music video of the song posted 58.7 million views as of 10 PM on October 14, surpassing the 50 million mark.
BLACKPINK’s other title track “WHISTLE” posted 41,658,613 Youtube views on the same day. Combined, the two music videos posted 91,659,483 views, and it will not be long until the two music videos reach a combined view mark of 100 million.
BLACKPINK released its debut album “SQUARE ONE” on August 8. “WHISTLE”, one of the title tracks, became no.1 on Korea’s eight major realtime, daily, and weekly online charts upon release. The song remained on the no.1 spot for almost a month and topped six monthly charts. BLACKPINK also became no.1 on a national TV music show in just 14 days after its debut, the shortest period ever for a girl group.
BLACKPINK is also huge outside of Korea. The group became no.1 on the iTunes charts of 14 countries and no. 7 on UK Amazon’s Rap & Hip-Hop and Hot New Release charts. BLACKPINK also topped QQ Music’s weekly, popular, main, and music video charts. Furthermore, for the first time for a Korean girl group, BLACKPINK took the top two spots of Billboard’s World Digital Songs chart. Last month, the group also chosen as Rolling Stone’s “10 New Artists You Need to Know”.
After successfully rounding off its one-month debut album promotions, BLACKPINK is currently busy preparing for its next single. Expectations are already running high for the group’s next new song.
