BLACKPINK’s JENNIE Makes History as the First Korean to Hit the Top 10 on a Billboard Chart
Blackpink’s future is bright, as the four women who make up the most popular girl group in the world have recently renewed their contracts to continue working together. While the band and their label plot their next chapter, one of the singers makes history on a Billboard chart with her current solo win.
This week, Jennie’s solo smash “One of the Girls” rises again on the Hot R&B Songs chart. Billboard publishes the tally every week, and it ranks the most-consumed tracks in the U.S. categorized as R&B.
This time around, “One of the Girls” lifts to a new high point of No. 8. It pushes from No. 12 to its new peak position. Jennie’s track is now the first tune that credits a South Korean artist to break into the top 10 on the Hot R&B Songs chart.
In fact, Jennie is thus far the only South Korean musician to hit the Hot R&B Songs chart at all. The same title has also appeared on a handful of other Billboard tallies in the past, including the R&B Digital Song Sales and R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales tallies.
As “One of the Girls” climbs on the Hot R&B Songs chart, it also improves on another competitive Billboard list. The single shoots to No. 35—a new best showing—on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. On that tally, it breaks into the top 40 region for the first time.
“One of the Girls” credits Jennie as a featured artist, along with actor and singer Lily-Rose Depp. The tune is helmed by The Weeknd, as it was written and recorded for the TV show he created and starred in, The Idol. While the series has not been renewed by HBO, at least one of the tracks that came from it is still charting—and even improving.
