In 2021, before the end of the year, I really wanted to see Jennie. I was so eager to meet her that I decided to make another DAZED called ‘Holiday Edition’. This project has been in preparation for almost half a year. Perhaps that’s why, unlike me in any other year, I was looking forward to the end of this year. And the reason was that I could see Jennie at the end of the year.

The reason why I missed Jennie so much is that Jennie is the one who can reveal DAZED most appropriately. Another reason is that I didn’t want to break the two-year law. We met Jennie every two years in the April 2017 issue and the April 2019 issue, and we made a pledge to fill the gap before 2021 passes. In other words, Jennie is the most suitable person for DAZED, so I have a sense of duty to record and show the reader her appearance at least once every two years as an editor-in-chief of DAZED.

I can’t forget my first meeting with Jennie in the spring of 2017. As soon as I saw Jennie coming into the studio in a grunge leopard print jacket, I remember talking to myself without realizing it, saying, “She’s definitely something else”. I remember the light emanated from her… Her fashion DNA could not be hidden. Jennie’s aura, which could not be defined by any one modifier, breathed vividly.

When do you think you will be completed and what do you think it will look like?

“I’m a perfectionist, so maybe that’s why I’m strict with myself. I don’t think I’ve ever been satisfied with myself. Is there anything perfect in this world? It seems like a repetition of finding faults and developing them.”

After filming her first solo pictorial and interview, Jennie concluded like this. At that time, I realized that Jennie’s path was in line with my path as editor-in-chief of DAZED.

It’s been two years since we met.

“That’s right. It was a time when I got so nervous every single time I do something. So I don’t remember what I did during the shoot or interview. I just remember being nervous.” (Smiles)

In the spring of 2019, Jennie stood in front of us with much more development. With the addition of BLINKs’ love and professional experience around the world to her clear and beautiful soul, she became truly invincible Jennie. At the end of the interview, we asked her the same question once more.

Do you remember the last question I asked when we met 2 years ago? I want to ask that again. Jennie, are you completed?

“My personality is kind of like that. I don’t know satisfaction. There are still many things I want to do, and I feel like it’s not being fulfilled. That’s why I always crave something. If I’m satisfied with myself, I feel like I might just stop there. I don’t want perfection.”

Jennie, who doesn’t want to be completed, and we had a third meeting where we don’t have to ask the same question anymore. In 2021, two years after the world was closed, I felt infinitely overwhelmed while filming with Jennie, who became the most global being in the meantime.

Being an unrivaled, and irreplaceable being. To the extent that the whole world, and even the whole universe recognizes it. Jennie doesn’t need any modifier. Jennie can exist as Jennie herself. Facing those times vividly, I constantly repeated to myself not to miss a single moment, a single word, or a single movement. Because as soon as she started the first cut, I realized that this scene with us today would be an extremely important record in the future.

I repeatedly said “You’re the best, literally the best!” to her as she got in the car after the shoot, (I even raised my thumbs up) but now that I think about it, it brings a blush to my cheeks. To correct it on the paper, ‘Thank you! I think this was more appropriate expression to say. I sincerely thank her for being able to capture this result made by Jennie’s intelligence, instinct, and effort in DAZED. I hope to see her again. I promise to prepare harder then.

Jennie is the most symbolic character in DAZED. It seems like only yesterday that you took a picture of your first cover at the bookstore and uploaded, but it’s already the third cover with us. Can you tell us your special affection for DAZED at the end of 2021?

“Wrapping up the year is as important as the beginning of the new year, and I’m so happy to wrap up 2021 with DAZED.”

This time, we wanted to capture Jennie, who is free and iconic enough to be called “Jennie Edition”. The filming set was diverse, too.

The atmosphere was diverse in each set, so I filmed by changing to various moods according to each set. It was also fun to direct various things.

Jennie’s face is decorating both online and offline around the world as Calvin Klein’s global campaign model. I wonder how you feel as a model for Calvin Klein Jean & Underwear, which leads innovation and breaks down boundaries.

I’m so happy to work with an iconic brand, Calvin Klein. I’ve been inspired by the Calvin Klein campaign since I was young, so it’s such an honor for me to be a campaign model myself and join them. I couldn’t see the billboard in person, but I received a lot of calls from acquaintances. Also I was so proud of myself just by looking at the photos of it.

Jennie is indeed a world-class icon. In particular, Jennie’s fashion style has a great influence on people all over the world. I heard that the so-called ‘Jennie Style’ was created by studying and shopping on your own.

I feel like my style changes every year, but I think it happens naturally because I try to learn the flow by constantly watching magazines and fashion shows. I think clothes are one of the easiest things to express myself depending on the mood of the day and what I was recently inspired.

As it is the end of the year edition, I am curious about Jennie’s thoughts on spending the 2021 pandemic era. You did digital online concert as BLACKPINK, and worked as a campaign model for various brands. When was the happiest moment in 2021 you liked the most?

I think I tried to focus a little more on myself and have a lot of time for myself this year. I tried to spend a year taking good care of myself and the people around me, who I haven’t cared about well because I’ve been busy. My goal was to rest as well as possible, but now that I look back, I was really busy this year. While filming global campaigns for various brands, I met new people who I haven’t usually worked with. And I remember every moment I worked with them. I really learned a lot from seeing and feeling a lot through new experiences. Each of those experiences was the happiest moments of 2021.

I can’t help but talk about so many BLINKs around the world. Please express your feelings for BLINKs who gives you passionate support even though it is non-face-to-face.

It’s been a really long time since I met BLINKs. I want to see them in person and say hello, but I’m so sad that I can’t. We can’t meet up close now, but I’d like to say thank you for always supporting me anytime, anywhere.

You stayed in US for a while and came back. You were able to meet your friends, and I think you had a special Halloween day there. I wonder what Jennie does, plays, and talks about when you meet your friends.

It’s been a while since I met them, so we ask each other about how they have been, and we usually talk a lot about our daily lives. My friends usually have similar interests with me, so we talk about music, movies we enjoyed recently, or about our pets.

Can you tell us Jennie’s plans for 2022?

I also want to show more diverse aspects of myself next year. There are many new things I want to try, but I’m still thinking about what to try first. I hope we will have more time with BLINKs in 2022.

Can you introduce the music, movies, and books that Jennie is into these days?

These days, I listen to Adele’s new album a lot. Not long ago, I watched the Netflix series Hellbound and I lost track of time. The movie I enjoyed watching recently is Dune.

Can you send a message of hope to BLINKs and countless people all around the world who have Jennie as their role model?

I guess you’re having a harder time than ever. I’d like to say thank you for doing well enough and overcoming the hard times.
